Q. What if I do not have a doctor?
A. A family doctor is required. If you do not have one, write in the phone number and address of a Medical Clinic that you would use.
Q. What if I am new to the community and do not have two emergency contacts?
A. Your registration cannot be confirmed until you have two emergency contacts. These people will be must be contacted if the parent can not be reached, in an emergency. The two emergency contacts must be adults, have different telephone numbers and be aware of this responsibility.
Q. Is there a discount if I have more than one child in a PLASP program?
A. Families with 3 or more children enrolled in PLASP programs. You can qualify for a 50% discount for the child with the lowest program fee.
Q. Is there subsidy available?
A. Government and PLASP subsidies are available for families who qualify. Please call the PLASP Head Office at 905-890-1711 for further information.
Q. What are the activities in the program?
A. All PLASP School Age Programs are recreational programs with planned activities, including games in the gym, outdoor activities, crafts and special events. Time is allowed for homework and for socializing.
Q. Does my child get a snack, and if so what is offered?
A. Children in the Before School Program are offered a nutritious breakfast like cereal, milk and fruit. Children in the After School Program recieve a substantial, nutritious snack including food such as sandwiches, fruit, cheese and crackers, and juice.
Q. Can my child bring nuts or peanut butter to the program?
A. PLASP operates “nut free” programs. Some children suffer severe allergic reactions to nut products. Please do not bring or send any items containing nuts or nut products to any PLASP programs. Nuts/peanut products will not be served to the children for breakfast, snacks, or used in any crafts.
Q. Can kindergarten children register in the program?
A. Kindergarten children can attend PLASP Before School, Lunch and After School Programs. There is no child care provided during school hours.
Q. What qualifications do staff in Before and After School programs have?
A. Staff are trained to the highest standards in working with school age children and must hold a valid first aid certificate. They are also required to complete courses through Sheridan College and PLASP’s training program. PLASP training requirements are recognized by the Ministry of Social Services. Training includes Positive Care Giving for Children, Introduction to Leadership Development, and Setting the Stage for Successful Behaviour.
Q. Do I have to pay if my child is away from school because of illness?
A. A refund of 50% of bi-weekly fees are given, upon written request, for 10 or more consecutive program days missed due to hospitalization or illness. A doctor’s note is required. Fees for all other time away from the program must be paid.
Q. How do I add or cancel a program?
A. To add a program, please speak with the Program Director at your child’s school. To cancel from a program, please call the PLASP Head Office at 905-890-1711 and speak with a Parent Services Representative, 5 business days prior to your cancellation date.
Q. Can someone else pay my child’s fees (e.g. grandparent)?
A. Yes, fees can be paid by another person, as long as current payment procedures are followed.
