Volunteering
At PLASP
PLASP
offers many different volunteering opportunities, and all have one
thing in common... they enhance the quality of care we provide to
our children. Volunteers work directly with the children in our
programs, assist with duties in the head office or participate as
Board or Committee Members. The majority of our volunteers work
directly with our children enhancing their life and enriching their
own.
We are viewed as an excellent choice for volunteer and student placements
by the local secondary schools, community colleges and other community
agencies. We take pride in the relationships we have with the community
and what we've accomplished together.
Each year, more than 500 volunteers (mostly youth) and 100 students
on placement (mainly Early Childhood Education and Secondary School
Cooperative Education Students) contribute more than 30,000 hours
to PLASP as they work directly with the children.
Our two main programs are:
The Volunteer Program:
Volunteers come from many sources; they may be fulfilling community
service objectives or gaining experience. Volunteers can be found
throughout the organization including PLASP's Board of Directors
and Committee Members.
The Student on Placement Program:
Students on placement are typically doing placements as part of
their Secondary School or College program, and are most often interested
in child care as a professional career. There are also placement
opportunities available at PLASP's Head Office for administrative
students enrolled in College courses, e.g., Human Services, Volunteer
Management, Human Resources, etc.
