do PLASP Volunteers do? |

PLASP
volunteers:
- chat
with and listen to the children
- play
outside and in the gym (soccer, baseball, basketball, etc.)
- play
board games, help with crafts, and read stories
- help
prepare and serve the daily snack
- help
maintain a clean, tidy, safe work and play area

Can
I share my special skills or hobbies with the children? |

If
you have a special skill or hobby, we would be delighted to
have you share it with the children. Volunteers have played
the guitar, the piano, taught the children how to draw, how
to dance, etc. |

Who
are PLASP volunteers? |
| A. |
PLASP
volunteers are people who:
- like
children
- are
caring and energetic
- work
well with others

Do
I need to have experience working with children? |
| A. |
No,
volunteers will receive on-the-job training.

How
do I go about volunteering? |
| A. |
- call
the Volunteer Department to sign up for an orientation session
- attend
an orientation session (tells you what you can expect and
what we expect)
|

Are
there any requirements I must meet in order to become a volunteer? |
| A. |
- you
must be 13 years of age or older
- if
you are a former PLASP child you must take a minimum of
one year off before returning as a volunteer
- you
must be willing to follow the directions of PLASP staff
|

How
often would l volunteer? |
| A. |
Volunteers
typically volunteer once a week between 3:30pm and 6:00pm in
a PLASP After School Program. We ask that you volunteer on the
same day each week as this provides consistency for the children,
the parents, and the staff. |

Can
I change my day of the week? |
| A. |
Yes
you can change the day of the week you volunteer. Please discuss
any changes to your schedule with the staff in your program. |

How
long would I volunteer? |
| A. |
You
are required to volunteer for a minimum of 40 hours. |

Does
PLASP keep track of my volunteer hours? |
| A. |
Yes.
The staff in your program keep track of your hours and forwards
them to the PLASP Head Office where they are entered into the
computer system. To find out about and/or get a letter confirming
your hours of service, with PLASP, please contact the Volunteer
Department at (905) 890-1711 |

Who
will be my on-the-job supervisor? |
| A. |
A
staff member in the program will be your on-the-job supervisor.

What
should I do if I am going to be away? |
| A. |
We
understand that you may need to be absent from your program
due to illness, other commitments, etc. You will receive guidelines
on how to handle this at your orientation session. |
