About PLASP kindergarten programs
PLASP is pleased to offer affordable, high-quality programs throughout the year for children enrolled in a kindergarten program operated by one of the school boards. PLASP provides programs with trained staff and competitive fees on each day care is offered. Your child must be registered in a school where PLASP programs are offered in order to attend the program.
Following the Ministry of Education’s play-based kindergarten curriculum, staff plan activities to facilitate learning through play, and provide a balanced program that supports and facilitates children’s optimum development.
If your child is under the age of five and not currently enrolled in kindergarten operated by one of the school boards, please visit our section on Early Learning and Child Care Centres for programs appropriate for your child.
We currently provide:
• Kindergarten programs for children in over 190 elementary schools located throughout Peel Region (Brampton, Mississauga, Bolton) and Toronto (Etobicoke and West Toronto, Scarborough and East Toronto, East York, North York and Central Toronto)
• Age-specific programming for children in kindergarten
• Before and/or after school programs located in your child's school
• Healthy and nutritious snacks and meals
All PLASP staff operating our Extended-Day Kindergarten Programs are RECEs (Registered Early Childhood Educators) and they understand the needs of young children. They take the time to listen and play, providing a balanced program that supports and encourages children. Staff have a valid Standard First Aid Certificate and are required to successfully complete a specifically designed training program. Required training includes WHMIS and Food Safety, Health and Safety Essentials, Administration of Medication and Self Esteem Orientation. Staff must also pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check. For more information, read our program statement. Not all programs are available at all locations. Please use the "search for care" function to see what programs are available at each location.
Before School Program
The Before School Program operates from 7:30 a.m. and continues until school begins. Children participate in social activities and enjoy a healthy breakfast, served daily.
Ratio: 1 staff to 13 children.
After School Programs
Begins at school dismissal and continues until 6 p.m. Children are greeted by PLASP staff each day, which allows a sense of stability and familiarity to develop. Staff plan play-based activities based on each child’s interests, following the Ministry of Education’s kindergarten program learning objectives. In addition to active play, children have the opportunity to socialize with their friends and have time to do homework. Special events are planned on a regular basis, including occasional special visitors. A snack is served every day. A typical snack includes whole grain crackers with cheese, fruit and water or juice.
Ratio: 1 staff to 13 children.
P.A. Day Programs (Kindergarten)
Kindergarten children who participate in one or more of PLASP's full-time programs can also register for our Professional Activity (P.A.) Day program. P.A. Day activities for children in this program operate out of pre-selected school locations within the same neighborhoods. Your child's P.A. Day Program may not be held at the school in which your child currently attends. In many cases, staffing, program components and classroom space will either be the same or very similar to what your child is accustomed to. Activities for the day includes arts and crafts, outdoor time (weather permitting), and enrichment activities scheduled specifically for P.A. Days such as music and movement, zumba or yoga. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided. Kindergarten children in the program will stay on school property for P.A. Days, and go on one half-day offsite trip in the spring.
The ratio is 1:13 when P.A. Days take place in the school.
The ratio is 1:8 when children travel by school bus on P.A. Day trips.
Summer, Holiday and March break camps are offered at select locations throughout Toronto, Brampton and Mississauga, depending on need.
