Building better connections with children PLASP’s 2019 Annual Parent and Community Meeting

Internationally-renowned child psychiatrist Dr. Jean Clinton will be sharing some valuable tips on how parents can navigate the tricky balance between setting their child up for successful development, while respecting their individuality. An expert in child and youth mental health, child welfare and primary care, Dr. Clinton will speak on this topic during her keynote presentation at PLASP’s Annual Parent and Community Meeting on Monday, October 28, 2019, where 1,000 guests are expected to attend.
Dr. Clinton is a clinical professor at the child psychiatry division of McMaster University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences. She also previously served as a provincial-level educator advisor to the Premier of Ontario and the Minister of Education.
Her talk will focus on helping parents explore how we think about our interactions with children, and how we can spend more time connecting with them.
“It is bound to be an exciting presentation that delves into the theme of understanding that children are meant to be distinct and unique in relation to their parents,” said PLASP CEO Lynn Hiebert. “It’s a theme many of our parents and families are familiar with – each child in our centres and programs are recognized as unique individuals who bring their own special talents, abilities and strengths to the world, and we strive to help them reach their fullest potential by encouraging them to try new things, explore new ideas and to learn to find their own place in the world.”
Other guests expected to attend include Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson; Sharon Hobin, Chair, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board; Stan Cameron, Chair, Peel District School Board; and Maria Rizzo, Chair, Toronto Catholic District School Board.
