An "awesome" evening with PLASP and Neil Pasricha

Neil Pasricha at the 2017 Annual Parent and Community Meeting

Nearly 1,000 parents, staff and community guests attended the PLASP Child Care Services Annual Parent and Community Meeting at the International Centre on October 30, 2017.

Keynote speaker, award winning blogger and bestselling author Neil Pasricha spoke about how parents can create positive and productive environments at home for children by taking ownership of their own positive mindset. He shared the “Big 7” ways to be happy right now, including the following:

  • take at least three walks each week
  • carry out random acts of kindness
  • ‘unplug’ completely to have downtime after work
  • document the things you’re grateful for each week

The meeting featured many of PLASP’s important partners.  Indira Naidoo-Harris, Minister Responsible for Early Years and Child Care talked about the Ontario government’s commitment to expanding the number of licensed child care spaces.

Directors of Education Marianne Mazzorato, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, Peter Joshua, Peel District School Board, and Rory McGuckin, Toronto Catholic District School Board each spoke about their partnerships with PLASP and received plaques to celebrate new PLASP programs in their school boards.

Sharon Hobin, Vice-Chair, Trustee, Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board and Barbara Poplawski, Trustee, Toronto Catholic District School Board also spoke about the important role PLASP plays in their school boards.

PLASP CEO Lynn Hiebert highlighted PLASP’s strategic plan and shared the new mission - supporting families by providing high quality licensed early learning and child care – where children thrive and want to be. “Children who start with PLASP as toddlers, and stay with PLASP until middle school, spend about 2,500 days of learning, growth and development with us,” she said, “It is our shared purpose to create a happy, awesome life for children and families”.

PLASP recognized and thanked more than 29 sponsors, whose financial assistance made the event possible. Lead sponsors for the evening were Grocery Gateway by Longo’sMississauga News, Brampton Guardian, and Etobicoke Guardian.

The event provided an opportunity for PLASP to celebrate its continued growth.  Paul Street, President, PLASP Board of Directors, reported that PLASP is now serving 15,000 children in 230 locations.
