Congratulations to PLASP Volunteer Manreet Sandhu!
On Friday, June 5th, we were honoured to present the first Volunteer Impact Award to Manreet Sandhu! Manreet began volunteering with PLASP in September 2024. She has been consistently attending her weekly volunteer position at the same after-school program for 100 hours of service!
Program Director, Kulbir Jaswal, nominated Manreet for the award, saying the following:
“Manreet has made a meaningful impact on our program, the staff, and the children through her consistent kindness and supportive attitude. Her soft-spoken approach creates a calm and welcoming environment, which helps the children feel safe, understood, and excited to participate.”
She continued to write, “Manreet shows strong mentorship and leadership through her kind and soft-spoken nature. As a mentor, she gently guides the children, making sure everyone feels included and supported.”
The Volunteer Impact Award was created this year. Based on nominations from staff, it is awarded to a volunteerwho demonstrates exceptional leadership in supporting PLASP programs, staff and children to make an outstanding impact.
Manager, Volunteer Services, Jennifer Lizon and Coordinator, Volunteer Services, Debbie Purich visited Manreet to present the award. Jennifer and Debbie quickly saw how much Manreet is appreciated and valued in the program. The children greeted her with a big hug and as a congratulations on her accomplishment, the children presented a poem to her.
We appreciate Manreet’s commitment to her volunteer position! Her profound impact in the program was clear. A big congratulations to Manreet on this achievement!
In response to receiving the award, Manreet said, “I’m honestly so grateful and excited to receive the Volunteer Impact Award, especially as the first recipient. I’m truly honoured to be recognized, and I really appreciate my Program Director for the nomination and all the kind feedback. I’ve really enjoyed volunteering with PLASP. It’s such a positive, welcoming environment, and I genuinely enjoy working with the children and being part of the program. I’m really looking forward to continuing my time there.”
