"They Should Be Dancing" - PLASP Children Host 70’s Revival To Celebrate the End of the School Year
The PLASP staff and children at Sheridan Park Public School in Mississauga will be hosting a 70’s revival talent show later this week in their school gymnasium. Children from various ages will be performing musical numbers from the Bee Gees, the Rolling Stones, the Bay City Rollers and much more. Program Director of the 10+ Club, Ingrid Loran, who has worked with PLASP for 24 years and was previously a dance instructor and performer, choreographed all the routines and worked with the children on sewing their own costumes.

Early last week, the girls from the PLASP 10+ Group were eager to have their rehearsal observed, show their costumes and pose for photos. All of the girls have been participating in the year end dance talent show for the past five years. When asked what she enjoyed the most about the event, PLASP program participant Morial shared the
The best part is that it showcases everyone’s strengths, and not just the dancing. Everyone pitches in to help out with the show – from performing, to making costumes, to painting posters and decorating the gym. It’s not just one person’s show, it’s everyone’s show.”

The 10+ Club is geared specifically towards children who are between 10 and 12 years of age. Children and staff collaborate to plan and implement activities which are age appropriate, challenging and fun. Engaging and involving the children in this manner not only provides the older children with life skills such as time management and planning, but their involvment in creating their activities also captures their attention and keeps them interested. The end of year dance talent show is a perfect example of this program and what it can accomplish.

Do you have a child participating in a PLASP 10+ Program in any of our schools? What life skills have they learned that you've observed them using when they're at home with you? We'd love to know!
