Letter to PLASP Parents - Public Schools (May 6)

Please see below the notice sent to our PLASP families with children registered in our programs in the public school boards. This notice does not impact families with children registered for programs in the catholic school boards.

Elementary Labour Update - Public Schools

Dear PLASP families,

Yesterday, we gave you an update about the anticipated labour situation between elementary teachers and public school boards. We based our notice on information we had from school boards as of yesterday morning.

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) will begin job action on Monday, May 11. We now understand from media reports that ETFO may notify school boards as late as Friday afternoon about the exact nature of the action.

To help you plan ahead, PLASP has the following contingency plan. If schools are open to students, our school age programs will operate. If schools are closed to students, our school age programs will also be closed. We will communicate with you on Friday afternoon or during the weekend to confirm the status of our school age programs for Monday, as soon as we receive confirmation from our school board partners. We anticipate that our child care centres will remain open.

If schools are deemed open for Monday, the PA Day program will proceed as planned. If your child is registered for this program, all details of the planned program will operate as announced. If schools are not open on Monday, the PA Day program will be cancelled. PLASP will follow its normal refund policy as outlined in the Parent Handbook. A refund of 50% of the PA Day fee will be issued to the next scheduled payment date.

We have no information about what will happen next week and encourage you to monitor the school board and ETFO websites for updates. Of course, we will notify you as soon as we receive any new information. But we are sharing our contingency plan with you, in the hopes this helps your family plan ahead.

You may have more questions. There are many ways to get answers:

  • Speak with staff at your child’s program or connect with your Area Manager
  • Call our head office at 905.890.1711
  • Visit our website, Twitter or Facebook page

The entire PLASP team is here to support your child and family through this uncertain time. We will continue to give you updates just as soon as we have more information.

Thank you,
