There are many benefits to incorporating physical play in your child's daily routine as at plays an important role in their healthy growth and development. Children in their early years don’t require much to get their daily dose of exercise, just by going on a walk, playing tag in the backyard, or doing simple stretches can benefit them just as much. With the focus being on enhancing physical literacy, our next activity is a fun way to build your child’s muscle strength, balance, and coordination.

Label each side of the dice with different actions. The goal is to roll the dice and use the number of dots to determine how many times to repeat the action.
Variation: Depending on the age of your child, you can use visuals instead of words to encourage movement.
Space and environment play a huge role when it comes to successfully implementing gross motor activities. If there are any barriers indoors, then take the fun outdoors. Children look up to adults as role models and will often imitate their actions. Begin by warming up and modeling simple stretches; shoulder rolls, arm circles, jumping jacks. Once the warm up is complete, introduce the activity by explaining the process. Take turns and give options, “would you like to roll first, or should I?” Compliment their actions, “look how far the dice went, I like the way you rolled the dice”, “wow you can jump so high”. Encourage them to count the dots of the dice, “How many jumping jacks do we have to do? Come count with me”.
