Ball Walk
It’s Friday!!! Today we are going to have fun with an easy family ball game that requires two things: a cardboard roll and a ball. This fun game will have your child engaged in trying to stay balanced and steady, all while moving from point A to point B. Let’s get started!
-
- Cardboard roll
-
- A ball
-
1. Open space free of tripping hazards.
-
2. Place a proper size of a ball on the top of the paper roll.
-
4. Count to see how many steps you can go before dropping the ball.
Tip: Create one for each family member that will play.
Quality family time where everyone is engaged in play helps to foster loving relationships and deepens bonds among family members. This quality time transfers into the family being able to adapt to changing situations that requires a family to act in unity.
This activity will engage your child to learn how to balance an item while moving their body steadily from point A to point B. Begin by inviting your child, “I’m going to try to balance this ball as long as I can. Do you want to try too?”. Once your child gets comfortable with balancing the ball on the roll, ask them to now try balancing the ball as long as they can while walking – count each step they take “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...Hooray!”. Encourage your child’s effort and have fun taking turns!
Tip: You can challenge your child further by getting them to balance the ball with one leg up, or by balancing it while spinning or to try to balance two at a time.
