September 30th, 2024: The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Monday, September 30th is The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada; a day which honours the children who never returned home and survivors of Residential Schools, as well as their families and communities. PLASP’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager, Alexis Dawson reflects on the history of Residential Schools in Canada, the devastating impact they continue to have, and how The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a chance to honour and reflect on experiences of Indigenous communities and discuss their contributions in age-appropriate ways at home and in our PLASP programs. In our programs and centres, staff will be sharing information and taking part in activities that have been provided by the PLASP Curriculum Team in a resource guide that was shared with all PLASP staff. PLASP will be sharing photos of children and staff wearing orange to signify their support for Residential School survivors, plus the curriculum they have been participating in.
PLASP encourages everyone to take time for learning and as we lead up to The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and beyond. Below are a few links to help you start your journey:
