On Thursday, June 2, 2016, PLASP celebrated 40 years of providing high-quality care to Peel and Toronto families with more than 450 events in over 200 schools.
“We were thrilled to collaborate with more than 1,200 staff to plan these events for PLASP families and friends on June 2,” says Lynn Hiebert, PLASP CEO. “It was a great opportunity to witness the play-based and child-led activities occurring in our programs on a daily basis.”
PLASP curriculum follows the guidelines of early learning, outlined in the Ontario Ministry of Education’s pedagogy document, “How Does Learning Happen?” PLASP programs also incorporate the principles of the HighScope curriculum, using the five ingredients of active learning – Materials, Manipulation, Choice, Child Language and Thought, and Adult Scaffolding.
Activities on June 2 included open-ended arts and crafts stations, photo booths, and a word wall.
In the weeks leading up to the event, we were thrilled to see the children engaging in the planning of the PLASP celebrations, working together with their peers and their program staff to create materials to support the activities that day.
Some photos of their amazing work are below. Please check back after June 2 for photos from the day of the event.
