Inclement Weather Protocol and Your PLASP Program: What You Need to Know
As we head into the winter months, we’d like to share the important information you’ll want to make note of when programs are impacted by inclement weather.
In the event of extreme weather conditions, PLASP will share information with you via email, our website, and our social media channels. Please also monitor your local radio/TV stations and your school board’s social media sites for announcements on school closures and bus cancellations.

Snow days
During extreme weather conditions, school boards could close schools. PLASP does not operate before and after school programs or our Early Learning Child Care Centres when schools are closed. PLASP EarlyON programs will also be closed. Do not bring children to the programs when the school is closed.
PLASP will make every effort to notify families of closures due to inclement weather. PLASP will notify you via:
Please note that refunds will not be issued due to reasons beyond the control of PLASP Child Care Services, such as school/programs closures. For more information on refunds, click here.
If busses are cancelled
Schools will remain open to staff and students. Therefore, PLASP's Early Learning and Child Care Centres, Before and After School programs, and PLASP EarlyON programs will remain open.

P.A. Day Programs
If extreme weather conditions occur on a P.A. Day, remember that PLASP's P.A. Day Programs will only be open if the schools are also open. Provided the school is open, children will be able to attend the P.A. Day Program from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the school.
Winter Break Programs
If extreme weather occurs during our Winter Break programs, you will receive an email on closures from PLASP. Information will also be posted on the PLASP website and on social media.
If You Are Running Late
If you know you are going to be late, please arrange for one of your emergency contacts to pick up your child from the program. You do not have to notify the Program Director if children are being picked up by one of your registered emergency contacts. Please ensure that your contact information and two emergency contacts are current by logging into your account at www.plasp.com.
If you need to arrange for your child to be picked up by someone who is NOT on your emergency contact list, for school age and kindergarten programs dial 905-890-1711 and enter the direct extension number or look up your location to leave a message for your Program Director. If you do not know the extension, it can be found on your family profile on the PLASP web portal. For Early Learning and Child Care Centres, please call the centre directly (number found on the PLASP website). On the rare occasion you may be late, your child will be safe with PLASP staff until you or your emergency contact arrives. Please see our Safe Arrival and Dismissal Policy for more information.
Please note: If your child is being picked up by someone other than yourself, PLASP staff will ask for photo ID.

Appropriate Dress
Please ensure your child has appropriate and warm clothing for outdoor play during the winter months. Layered clothing for indoor activities is also recommended.
Children are kept indoors when the Chief Medical Officer issues cold weather alerts, or when outdoor temperatures are -27C or colder, with or without wind chill and reducing the amount of time outdoors at -15C or colder. Please see our Adverse Weather Conditions Policy for more information.
Here’s wishing you a wonderful winter season!
